First Go to Plugins >> Add New then search for this plugin and then click on install now from search results. After activating the plugin, you will see a separate menu for this plugin at the left sidebar of WordPress.
How to Use WordPress SEO Plugin By Yoast
Now we are explaining you that how you can setup and use WordPress SEO plugin by yoast.
Read carefully because new bloggers might find it hard to configure. A wrong configuration can stop search engine bots from indexing your blog.
WordPress SEO Dashboard
After activating the plugin and In the WordPress SEO Dashboard, you will see a ” Webmaster Tools ” section where you can verify your site with the 3 different webmaster tools like Google webmaster tools, Bing webamster tools and Alexa.
Or you can also read our below article to know about ” How to Submit Website to Google and Bing “.
Title and Meta Settings
After discussing about dashboard, the next option is ” Titles & Metas “.
Title and meta settings is the most important part of this plugin.
- In ” General ” tab under ” Sitewide meta setting “, check the box ” Noindex subpages of archives ” if you want to prevent subpages like /page/2/ to show up in the search results.
- As I think you should ignore ” Use meta keywords tag ” because Google also says that they do not care about keyword meta tag.
- Check ” Add noodp meta robots tag sitewide ” if you wants to prevent search engines from using DMOZ description for pages from your site in the search results.
- Check ” Add noydir meta robots tag sitewide ” if you wants to prevent search engines from using the yahoo directory for pages from your site in the search results.
and I think you should use the last options under ” Clean up the <head> ” section which will keep your WordPress blog head section clean by hiding information such as shortlink for posts, RSD links and other.
Then after this click on next tab i.e. Home tab where you will configure the settings for your homepage. See the screenshot below.
In this section, you have to place title for your homepage in ” Title Template ” box which will show in the Google search results.
The next option is ” Meta description Template ” so place the meta description for your homepage.
Here in post type section, you can define SEO for post, pages and media of your blog. You can see ” Meta Robots ” option in above pic for posts. Right ???
If you wants to noindex your posts in Google search then check this box and search engine bots will not crawl your posts. But you should not do this. I explain this just for your knowledge.
Check the box saying ” Don’t show rel=”author” ” if you don’t want to show your image in Google search results. See below image.
Check the box saying ” Show date in snippet preview ? ” If you wants to show date in Google search result for your blog post. This will let the visitors know that the post is fresh and recently published.
All this same settings you can also do for pages and media under ” Post Type ” tab and below the ” Posts ” section.
Under taxanomies section, I recommend you to check the box saying ” Noindex, follow ” and ” Hide ” for categories, tags and format. This will prevent categories and tags to be indexed in Google.
We are telling you this because we are not indexing tags and categories in Google search.
In this section, I suggest you to check ” Noindex, follow ” for author archives and date archives and leave all the things as it is.
Now all the part of ” Title and Meta setting ” ended for WordPress SEO plugin. Hope you are understanding clearly all the about how to install and use WordPress SEO plugin by yoast.

I am also using the XML sitemap generated by WordPress SEO plugin by yoast.
In this section, we are not discussing about permalinks in setting tab of WordPress. In this section, It assumes that you have already done that.
Here you can configure advanced permalink settings.
We are using 2-3 settings from this option to avoid some issues like it’s easier to get rid of replytocom issue using this plugin which is most important.
Breadcrumbs are most usable and it helps search engine to understand your site structure and also helps users to navigate your site. You can learn more about this from here .
