  • That’s a really great post Chetan and chalked full of useful and helpful tips.

I think that most people think that it is really difficult to get a decent page rank with Google but if you stick to the guidelines you shared here and do everything whitehat then you should be able to get a decent one. I think the backlinks coming from higher PR sites will truly help you get a higher pagerank and more traffic of course but I think everyone should be pretty happy if you can get a 3.

Appreciate you sharing this and I’ll be sure to pass this along as well. I’m sure everyone else will appreciate it as well.

P.S. Now be sure to set up your Twitter ID in your social sharing button on the top of your post because you aren’t aware of who is sharing your content which in turn will prevent them from sharing yours.

    • Thanks Adrienne for your appreciation and comment. I also think while writing the post that which information should i share different from others. I always share all the information anyone needs to know related to the topic. And thanks for informing me about my Twitter ID. I resolved it.

    • Hey Sohil
Actually i have no any idea about this because Google has not officially made any announcements about updating PageRank, there is enough chatter in forums and blogs to suggest you about this.

  • Great post, Chetan, but I have to disagree with #7 and always using nofollow links. That will actually hurt your page ranking. Dofollow and nofollow links were both created for a reason.

First of all, ‘link juice’ isn’t real. Matt Cutts invented that term to explain how the search engine spiders follow links. When the spider leaves your site, you don’t actually lose any ‘juice.’ What happens is, on a dofollow link, the spider won’t go any further into your site other than that page.

If you’re never going to use dofollow links, then there is no point in having any outbound links at all.

Contrary to popular opinion, not all internal links should be dofollow, either.

Dofollow links are supposed to be used when the link is directly related to your anchor text and the content of your post. Nofollow links are used when you want to give a link for more information, but it’s not particularly related to the content at hand.

For instance, if you were to link the anchor text ‘dofollow’ in this post to a page in Wikipedia, you should use a nofollow, because all Wikipedia is doing is defining what ‘dofollow’ is, but it’s not really building on that knowledge other than the definition.

However, if you are linking to a blog that has a big post about how to use dofollow correctly, tips and tricks when using dofollow, etc., and it’s directly related to what you are writing about in your own post, then you should make it a ‘dofollow’ link.

Google actually EXPECTS to see both dofollow and nofollow links. If all your links are nofollow, the algorithm will basically assume you’re trying to hog all the ‘link juice’ to yourself, and will penalize you accordingly. In other words, no PR for you. Well, actually, it will just make it take longer to gain PR, assuming you have all your ducks in a row.

If you like, I can try to track down the video where Matt Cutts breaks it down. If dofollows were not meant to be used, there would be no sense in having dofollow and nofollow links.

Other than that, great article. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Chetan,

This is one of the best guide that I have read online and I really enjoyed reading it . People really don’t understand that taking short cut is not going to take the blog anywhere. The important point is get quality traffic and not only numbers. Quality traffic will help us build solid network and open avenues of partnership and contracts.
Building a solid blog takes a lot of time and yes doing it right is worth the effort.

Thanks and have a nice day

    • Hey Ashvini
You are absolutely right that shortcut is not good for anything. If anyone really wants to be successful in any profession then He/She should follow the correct way of success. That is the real success.

  • When will be the next page rank update?
    August??? or later???

    • Hey Janmejai
Welcome to my blog and thanks for your comment. Google never disclose any fix date of Page rank update. It mostly takes place after every 3-5 months. So May be next pagerank update takes place in this July or August.
Take care and Keep enjoying πŸ™‚
